Animal Disease Notification System
ADNIS is a component of the US Government’s Feed the Future (FtF) Initiative and constitutes a part of USAID’s contribution to the Government of Ethiopia’s Agricultural Growth Program (AGP).
As disease surveillance is a core activity of the Animal Health Directorate the overall objective was to improve planning and monitoring of animal disease control strategies. Specifically, it was to enable the development of software required for the innovative animal disease notification system. The android mobile component enables alerts to be pushed to specific users if a notifiable disease (such as Nile Fever) is reported. Heat maps can be enabled which show disease evolution over a selected time interval
After cloud trials the system was installed at the Ministry and is managed by technical staff there. There have been many thousands of disease reports received by the system so far.
